This is one of my favorite photographs taken in May along a beautiful stretch of road named Valley Ford Franklin School Rd, between Valley Ford and Dillon Beach, California. This road is accessible off of Highway 1 heading toward Bodega Bay.
I shot this with my Canon 20D DSLR and the entry level Canon EF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 kit lens. With a 1.65 crop factor, at 18mm the equivelant focal length on a full frame 35mm camera would be about 28mm.
There were several shots taken during that time frame, but this was the one I liked the most. That was because the fog in the picture was very dense, and it looked very dramatic, with the tree branches adding further depth. It made the in the fog stand out against the grey backdrop. This picture captured the eeriness of the fog, and it looked like the road was in a tunnel.

Taken in late May, the surrounding area did not have a cloud in sight, but the fog lay on this road like a thick wall. This is not uncommon, even in the middle of summer. I love to explore new places and photograph the natural beauty around me. I am always on the look out for interesting landscapes, and I like to spend time in nature. There are many places in Northern California where you can enjoy the beauty of nature that is not overtaken by a concrete jungle.
This leg of Highway 1 is a beautiful scenic route which runs from San Francisco up to Bodega Bay. I have been to this area a few times and I enjoyed every minute of my time here. One of the best things about this area is that there are lots of opportunities to take pictures. If you’re ever heading north from San Francisco and have time to spare, I’d highly recommend taking Highway 1 over Highway 101 or Interstate 80.
